KPJ Healthcare Berhad - Annual Report 2015 - page 21

Further evidence of KPJ’s growth-oriented
efforts is the sponsorship for Continuous
Education Programmes (CEP) for qualified
individuals among the staff. The Group
has stood firm for many years on its
decision to sponsor qualified staff
membe r s f o r Mas t e r s and PhD
programmes, both at local and
international varsities ~ thereby
accelerating their rise through the ranks.
This has not only added great value to our
organisation, but also to the healthcare
industry and nation as a whole.
KPJ’s tireless efforts have been widely
recognised. In 2015, KPJ was named the
Grand Winner under Employer of Choice
category of the Malaysia HR Awards,
surpassing more than 100 companies
vying for the same award. This highly
acclaimed and internationally recognised
Grand award also acknowledges the
sustained and continuous commitment by
KPJ to nurture its talents. KPJ Penang has
also won the Silver Award (HR Best
Practice) of the same Awards. This shows
that the Group has a good human resource
system which is being practised groupwide
and not only at the headquarters level.
LEVERAGING TECHNOLOGY
ENHANCEMENTS FOR
QUALITY CARE
Technology is a key driver of excellence
at KPJ. As technological advancements
change consumer preferences and the
way in which we operate, we at KPJ
continue to be at the forefront of
medical technology and innovation in
the country as we seek new avenues to
build shareholder value. KPJ has come a
long way since the development of its
in-house back end IT applications nearly
20 years ago, and now stands proud as
the first healthcare provider in Malaysia
to adopt cloud computing in its hospitals.
The adoption of cloud computing is not
merely aimed at cutting costs, but also
to provide for an improved and agile
service to its doctors in assessing
patient information in real-time to
ensure that we deliver a seamless
service. Presently, 12 hospitals have
been installed with the platform, while
another 7 are expected to be cloud-
ready by the end of the year.
To optimise the handling of patients’
records and to increase hospital
efficiency, we have introduced and
developed an internal Electronic Medical
Record (“EMR”) system, which is part of
its KPJ Clinical Information System
(“KCIS”). The KCIS, in turn, is primarily
used for clinical care delivery, allowing
doctors to access cases off-site to
further enhance its service delivery.
Meanwhile, KPJ is eagerly looking at
expanding its reach in the field of data
and analytics and has set up a dedicated
IT team to delve into this. We have also
successfully finalised its pilot run of the
Diagnosis Related Group (“DRG”) system
with 3M and have adopted the All-
Refined Patient DRG Standard at two
hospitals.
Besides improving on systems and
e n h a n c i n g i t s t e c h n o l o g i c a l
infrastructure, in 2015 we also invested
in new state-of-the-art equipment for
the oncology department and in Positron
Emi s s i on Tomog r aphy - Compu t ed
Tomography (“PETCT”) equipment.
Several hospitals under the Group have
also been identified as Centres of
Excellence (“CoE”) for the treatment of
specific ailments. These include KPJ
Damansara for oncology & interventional
radiology, KPJ Tawakkal for orthopaedics
and KPJ Johor for oncology.
