BUILDING STRENGTH
THROUGH CLINICAL
GOVERNANCE
At the very heart of its “Care for Life”
philosophy is its commitment to uphold
the highest standards of Clinical
Governance. Clinical Governance has
c e r t a i n p a r a l l e l s t o Co r p o r a t e
Governance, in that it addresses
structures, systems and processes that
assure accountability, quality and the
proper management of an organisation’s
operations and delivery of service. It
also applies to aspects in the care of
patients and their careers. It is a
systematic approach to maintain and
improve the quality of patient care
within a health system.
Realising the importance of quality of
delivery of care to its valued customers,
KPJ continuously improves its clinical
standards and practices. The KPJ Clinical
Governance Policy Committee has
therefore been formed to monitor and
improve the standard of care, enforce
transparency, responsibility and
accountability.
For instance, this year alone, all 25 KPJ
hospitals participated in the 2015
Critical Service Clinical Excellence
Survey. This checklist covered how
hospitals have improved in services
such as Accident & Emergency,
Haemodialysis, Intensive Care, Labour
Room and Operation Theatre. Assisted
by the Chief Nursing Officers, the
surveys were conducted and completed
in August. Site visits were also
conducted to check on compliance as
well as to verify data that was submitted
to its head office.
Other examples of clinical governance in
KPJ is the studies on the outbreak or
increase of certain diseases and also
the mortality rates. These studies were
conducted throughout the year so as to
help improve the standard of care to
our patients.

Governance activities, please refer to

TALENT MANAGEMENT
One of KPJ’s most valued assets are its
staff members, which is today 12,329
strong. A fundamental strategy has always
been to maximise the entire team’s
capabilities and leverage on their strengths.
KPJ believes in empowering each individual
staff member to do their very best in
serving patients and customers.
In order to achieve this, KPJ is determined
to increase staff satisfaction and long
term retention through the achievement
of work-life balance. KPJ is also involved
in programmes that celebrate diversity
such as the Flex Work Life Award
organised by TalentCorp.
The Group also practices a two-way Staff
Performance Appraisal (SPAR) -
Performance Management system. Its
main focus is to serve as a fair and
balanced evaluation tool that accelerates
overall staff performance in their respective
teams as well as across the board, at all
levels. Compensation is therefore
adequately based on the staff’s all-round
performance and growth potential.
